To my surprise, I received a message (text and e-mail) from the California Department of Health last week (I had registered back in January on the California My Turn website) that I was eligible to receive my Covid-19 vaccine! I looked on the California statewide website My Turn but couldn't find an appointment (everything full). By coincidence, I got an e-mail a couple of days later from my primary care physician that he had received a new batch of Moderna vaccines and that he had appointments available for established, eligible patients! I checked the website, but no luck at first. However, when I checked again the next day, one slot had opened up, so I jumped on it, and was able to book for March 23!!! Oh happy day! I was so excited and relieved to get my first shot! One more to go (in 4 weeks from now)!

Update April 1, 2021: California is expanding the eligibility for Covid-19 vaccination! Beginning Thursday, April 1, all Californians age 50 or older are eligible to receive the vaccine, regardless of their profession or medical history. Starting on Thursday, April 15, all Californians age 16 and older will be eligible for a vaccine.
I was able to schedule an appointment for Marcus at Keck Hospital of USC, where we have a patient portal account, for April 21. Keck Medicine administers the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine (the third vaccine available in the US is the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine, available at most pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc))
Way to go, California!
