Today was a busy day!
Ennio had his 9 month check-up at the
doctor's this morning and
Lily had her first ever
dentist appointment this afternoon.
Our happy lad!
Ennio did well height and weight-wise. He is in the 90-95th percentile for both. The only thing that concerned me a little bit is that he is still not sitting very stably. He sits fine, but never for long, he falls over easily. The doctor didn't seem too worried about it, since Ennio does roll well from belly to back and the other way around, but advised that seeing a physical therapist might help strengthen his muscles. We'll see. I might wait it out a little longer and then see if physical therapy is really necessary...
And here are his stats...
Hoofdomtrek: 47,3 cm (90e percentiel) (+ 2,3 cm erbij)
Length: 30 inches (90th percentile) (he grew 1.75 inches in 3 months)
Weight: 25 pounds (95th percentile) (+ 3 pounds 8 ounces in 3 months)
Head circumference: 18 5/8 inches (90th percentile) (+ almost 1 inch)
Checking myself out in the mirror!
That's my hand!
All happy... before getting his vaccination shots!
A brave boy and a proud mama!
Ennio got his immunization shot and then
Dr. JJ announced that she will be retiring this year!!! We really liked her (and so did the kids!) so it's sad to see her go, but very understandable. We'll probably stay at the same practice,
Boulevard Pediatrics, we'll just have to pick another doctor who will hopefully be just as good!
After dropping off Ennio at home, I went to pick up
Lily from school and we went straight to the dentist! Not that she has any dental complaints, but she's three now and has all her baby teeth, so I thought a visit would not be a bad idea... (and maybe motivate her to brush her teeth a bit better!) According to the
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the first dental visit should be scheduled when the first tooth appears, or no later than the first birthday, so it was about time, haha!
I went on-line and read
good reviews of
Dr. Peter Joe, a pediatric dentist in South Pasadena (10 min. drive from where we live). Happy to discover that he was in our insurance plan, I set up an appointment for Lily about a month ago and today was D-day! Marcus had told Lily's teacher this morning about the dentist visit, so the teacher had talked in class about what nice people dentists are and how they care for you and clean your teeth, etc... so Lily was completely prepared and excited when I picked her up!
We got to the office and were not disappointed! Very friendly staff and state-of-the-art equipment! Lily loved the toys in the waiting room and the movie screen on the ceiling (above the dentist chair!). She was VERY cooperative (against my expectations). It helped that she was allowed to hold Woody and Buzz during the teeth cleaning and that she was promised a "prize" (a sticker) after the entire procedure :-)

Dr. Joe at work!
The verdict: nice teeth and no cavities! Hooray! She has a bit of an overbite (4mm), but it's nothing too serious. We should get her off the pacifier (she is an addict!) within the next year, but overall having a paci is less problematic than thumb-sucking... Next appointment in 6 months!
