| Balancing act on the boats! |
We just returned from a fantastic vacation in
sunny Florida! It was overcast for about 3 days, but we had no less fun! Oma and Opa from Belgium met us in
Miami International Airport and off we went for a week of relaxing, hanging by the pool, sipping cocktails and indulging in the most delicious food at
Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port Saint Lucie, FL. It was all about spending quality time with each other as we don't have the chance to do this very often. Moreover, we celebrated
Ennio's 1st birthday while on holiday. He had his first bite of cake, and I just couldn't believe how this year has flown by and what a big and beautiful boy we have... He continues to amaze us every day (together with his big sis, of course). Here's a little recap of what we all did - sweet memories of a wonderful holiday...
Day 1, Thursday April 26: Flight LAX-MIA
As always, I was very worried about the flight with an (almost) 1 year old and a 3 year old. Since it was a domestic flight, we didn't have the option of a bassinet (which is available on international flights). In the end, it all worked out fine. Ennio took 2 one-hour naps in my or Marcus's lap. And the iPad was our lifesaver for Lily! She loooooves the
Super Why app of PBS Kids.
We met my parents in the lobby of the
Miami International Airport Hotel, a great spot to meet (it's just 1 level up from International Arrivals). We had a drink first (of course) - so happy to be together again! - and then we went and picked up our rental car to drive to
Port St Lucie, about a 2-hour drive. After a long day of traveling, we were so relieved to crash in Club Med's spacious beds, ready for a week of holiday!
Day 2, Friday April 27
Nothing much going on today. We explored the grounds and relaxed on the beach and by the swimming pool(s).
Day 3, Saturday April 28
More pool-time!
Day 4, Sunday April 29, Ennio's 1st Birthday!!!
It rained today! We visited the
Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast, where Lily loved dressing up as a veterinarian and examining the animals. We also stopped by Jensen Beach, but it was very windy so we didn't stay too long. At night, we celebrated Ennio's first birthday with a delicious meal and chocolate cake for dessert!
Day 5, Monday April 30
A day off for Marcus and I!!! Lily went to the "Petit Club Med" and my parents watched Ennio all day long. Marcus and I enjoyed this time off by taking a tennis class, relaxing at the (adults only) infinity pool, going to l'Occitane Spa (I got a deluxe manicure/pedicure) and having dinner at Le Soleil restaurant. We did feel a little bit guilty for dropping Lily off at the kids club, but we really shouldn't have. She'd played "petit tennis" and "petit golf", and had had a great day!
Day 6, Tuesday May 1
We went on an excursion today: the
Port St Lucie River Dolphins Tour. Lily and Ennio enjoyed their first boat ride ever, and we did see some dolphins! We also stopped by a sand bank where Lily and Opa collected some shells and we had a small picnic.
Day 7, Wednesday May 2
Our last full day at the Club! Relaxing relaxing! And spending a lot of time in the pool!
Day 8, Thursday May 3
Last time waking up in our big Club Med bed! Last breakfast! Last walk on the grounds and saying goodbye to the boats! Last cocktail!
We checked out and headed back to Miami. Underway, we visited
Coral Castle. Pretty impressive, but Lily was not really in the mood, so I could not enjoy it, really. Moreover, it was soooo hot. I was happy to get back in the car (air conditioning!). At night, we drove to Miami's South Beach where we had Cuban food on Collins Avenue.
Day 9, Friday May 4
We spent the night at the Hilton Miami Airport hotel, but since our flights weren't scheduled until late afternoon, we decided to still spend some time at Miami Beach. We had a delicious brunch on Ocean Avenue (including some GIANT cocktails) and then strolled along the beautiful beach. The sand here is like silky white powder, so soft! And the water... turquoise blue! Too bad we couldn't stay longer! It definitely makes me want to come back here!

All in all a great holiday! I can't say enough good things about the Club Med experience. The rooms were very nice (big and accommodated with a baby stroller, bath tub, changing station, crib, etc... even a bottle warmer!!!), the staff very helpful and extremely kid-friendly. The food at the all-inclusive buffet was delicious (not the typical American hamburger and fries - although that was also one of the available choices - but fine French cuisine, think foie gras, lobster, and much much more). We enjoyed having a big breakfast outside every morning (croissants! pain au chocolat! fresh fruit! mmm!). And the pools! You could choose between the Family Pool, the Lap Pool, the Infinity Pool or the Kiddie Pool! Last but not least, my dad loved getting us (free) cocktails while we were hanging out by the pool or in the lounge area by the bar. We sure were able to recharge our batteries!
Really hope we can do this again next year!
