Terugblik op 2016

Ennio and I in Florida (March 2016)

October 13: Social Skills training starts at PCDA from 5 to 6pm each week (no more SEDI which had been put on hold since summer)

November 9: Parent-Teacher conference Ennio

All of this combined with Dutch classes with Juf Karin (Lily, 2 hrs/week)
and piano class with Monica (Lily, 30 min/week)
and SoccerShots with coach Alex (Ennio, 30 minutes/week)
and karate classes (30 minutes each child once or twice/week)
and swim classes in September-October (twice/week for each child)
and yoga class in September-October (Lily, 1 hour on Fridays)
and Girl Scouts (Lily, 1-2 times/month)
and Dutch School on Saturday mornings (both kids)!

Okay, okay, I admit, it's too much! That's why we stopped piano, soccer and karate when summer started (the kids were away most of the summer) and we have not resumed these classes since. We will see what the new year will bring... although, it will be hard to fit them back in now that I'm back to working full-time (since November 1)!  I do love the karate classes for the kids, so we will do our best to add that to the schedule!

Right now, it looks like the 2017 weekly schedule will be as follows:
Monday through Friday: school from 8:06am until 2:34pm; early dismissal on Tuesday at 1:34pm; afterschool care at Carlin G. Smith Rec Center until Marcus or I pick up the kids (around 5-5:30pm unless Ennio has therapy or Lily a class, then Marcus picks up early)
Therapy:
Monday: FREE (yay!)
Tuesday: 2:00pm – 5:00pm ABA (Familias First)
Wednesday: 30 minutes Speech Therapy every 2 weeks (in school - LAUSD);
Thursday: 5:00pm – 6:00pm: Social Skills at PCDA;
Friday: 30 minutes OT every 2 weeks (in school - LAUSD)

Overall, I am very happy that Ennio is getting all this help, but I can't help that it often feels like a burden, and that it makes me not enjoy his childhood as much as I should :-( And then I feel guilty...
I have to remind myself to enjoy the small things, the smiles, the happy moments,... And to tell you the truth, they're not happening during therapy, but they are when we are traveling together. We had such a good time together over the summer. Ennio is often still talking about it, he wants to see the photo albums, he is finding the places we went to on Google Earth, he remembers so much! Maybe we should start some type of travel therapy :-) :-) :-)

To end on a good note, here are some great Ennio travel memories I want to treasure forever:
Happiest when he's at the airport!!!
Happy at the farm!
Happy near the water!
Happy on the road!

Happy here... Finding his own way :-)

2 weeks with Oma Eva!

Oma Eva arrived on December 15 and left on December 29. 2 weeks that went by way too fast and in which we did tons of fun stuff!

Thursday, December 15: Oma finally made it to Los Angeles after being underway for almost 48 hours! Lily had been so disappointed she cried on Wednesday night when she heard Oma had missed her connection! Then, on Thursday night it took us 2 hours to get home from the airport (rain and holiday traffic - not a good combo in LA!). But, when the kids heard my car drive into the garage, they ran down and couldn't hug Oma fast enough! They were overjoyed she was here! So special to see!

Friday, December 16: Last day of school and then hanging out at home with Oma! Ennio came home with this SUPER adorable snowman. It is made out of a white wooden fence picket, and is decorated with a fuzzy sock for the hat, a blue scarf, a red nose, large color buttons and Ennio's fingerprints for the eyes and mouth! The plank is just as tall as Ennio is right now! The note on it reads "Lean this snowman against a wall, to remind you when I was this small. Fingerprints made the mouth and eyes. This snowman is just my size! So take him out each holiday and see - I'm not as little as I used to be! Happy Holidays! Ennio"

Saturday, December 17: Last day of Dutch School in the morning and Reign's 8th birthday party in the afternoon.

Sunday, December 18: Holiday party at our house with Brandon and pregnant Andrea, Pamela and baby Jacob, and Barbara and her girls Martha and Louisa (we missed Peter and Edith!)
Brandon is practicing with Jacob!
Cheese and wine!

Tuesday, December 20: We went to Pasadena and in the afternoon Lily had a thorough eye examination with Dr. Wang at South Pasadena Optometric Group. Her eye prescription was adjusted and she got new glasses!

Cheers, Oma! Photo credit: Ennio!

At night, Marcus and I had a long overdue date night! We went to see Lion at the Laemmle in Pasadena.

Thursday, December 22: Another date night for Marcus and me! Thank you, Oma Eva!!! This time, we went out in Downtown: first drinks at the rooftop bar Perch LA and then a movie (Arrival) at LA Live.

Friday, December 23: Lazy day at home! How I love those! Ennio did Google Earth in Virtual Reality with daddy's VR goggles, definitely one of his favorite things to do! In the late afternoon, we drove to Newport Beach to have an early Christmas get-together with the Grubb and Goodnoe families, an annual tradition!

Saturday, December 24: Christmas Eve with the Gombos Family!

Playing in the huge backyard!

Warming up inside by the fire! Sooo cozy!

Ennio's typical face when I say "Smile" to take a photo :-)
Sunday, December 25: Christmas and opening Santa's presents! Since I took a lot of photos, I'll put them in a separate post. We also went biking and rollerskating at the park. And at night, Marcus and I had a date movie night at home (A Monster Calls)!

Monday, December 26: a quiet day at home with some runs to The Container Store (a must-go if you want to organize your home, and in our case, a necessity since we had to deal with an ant invasion in our pantry! On the bright side, my kitchen cabinets are now more organized and cleaner than ever!)

Tuesday, December 27: after work, I met up with Marcus, Oma Eva and kids at the LA Live ice skating rink. Afterwards, we had a delicious dinner at Katsuya.

Wednesday, December 28: Oma's last full day with us! Hard to believe. We had a goodbye-dinner at Mia Sushi, our favorite local restaurant (and now Oma's too)! Oh, and I was also able to use my gift card for a pedicure from Oma Eva. I went to Zen Spa in Highland Park and got - hands down - the best pedicure ever!!! I will be coming back to this place!

Thursday, December 29: Oma Eva flew back to Stuttgart... We had a great time and can't wait to see her back in 2017!

Love from Pierrot Lily!
And from Google Earth fanatic Ennio!

CHRISTMAS!

The merriest day of the year!

Lily made a little tray for Santa Claus with home-made cookies and a cup of milk!
Obviously it worked, because Santa Claus really did come that night!
Happy kids in the morning!

Santa Claus left a letter and Lily read it to us. He wrote: "Dear Lily and Ennio, This letter is for both of you, but Lily can read it to Ennio. I hope you will like your new toys and you will play and SHARE them together! Lily, you are a very sweet girl! Ennio, I know you can be a good boy too! Keep being nice and Santa will be happy! A big hug from me and a big lick from my reindeer! ~ Santa Claus ~
Lily got a karaoke player and has been singing ever since!

Ennio got a world map!

Oma Eva also played "Santa" and got Ennio Playmobil waterslides and Lily rollerskates!
