Marcus and Lily... pool-style
Picture taken last weekend, May 17, at our friend JD's pool - he lives next door to the Chateau Marmont, where all the celebrities hang out, so "incognito sunglasses" were mandatory :-)
Main cause of distress: day care troubles and... TEETHING! The first week (May 11-15) of day care went well, but last week (May 18-22) was awful. On Monday, Lily came home sounding very hoarse, she'd almost lost her voice completely! She'd been crying a lot (which is very unusual for her). We also noticed she didn't sleep as well anymore. We would put her down for the night but she'd wake up crying several times until midnight. One night at midnight, big tears were rolling over her cheeks. So sad! I had to give her a bottle and sing and rock her to sleep. The next day at day care, she cried a lot again and they told us Lily was probably teething. Since she hadn't been drooling like crazy, I hadn't even given this a thought! We got her some teething tablets and she seemed fine, a happy baby again. On Wednesday around noon, though, we got a call from the day care - they didn't know what to do anymore... Lily was VERY unhappy. Whatever they did (pick her up, put her down, play with her), she would cry cry cry. They'd given her the teething tablets and Tylenol, but she was still crying. I tell you, when you hear this, it is breaking your heart. Marcus was able to pick her up and she was perfectly happy again at home!!! However, the day care had asked us to check in with our doctor, maybe Lily had an ear infection or something (I think they were just guessing...) So, on Thursday, Marcus and Lily went to see the doctor and Lily was just fine (thank God). Definitely teething, but no ear infection, just a bit of a dry cough, so he recommended we got an air humidifier for her room (which we did in the meantime. It actually looks really cute!). What a relief! Still, it was so hard having to bring Lily to day care again on Friday. I felt sooooo bad! What if Lily just didn't like the day care??? Then what??? But yippie yah yay, she did great that day, so it seems like getting those 2 teeth (the actual cutting through the gums) was the biggest cause of her unhappiness...
The teeth are out now (just 2 white strips on her bottom gums - who would've thought this could hurt so much???) and she's not in pain anymore. She now sucks her bottom lip all the time and plays with her tongue over her gums and new teeth. It looks so funny. She's also been through other developmental stages. She moves and turns and rolls around more. On Friday, we found her in a completely different position in her crib. That was a first. She used to not move an inch! I think all of this contributed to her day care anxiety. She must be overwhelmed by all these changes... For the day care people, we wrote down a list with Lily-facts: how we spend time with her, how we put her to sleep, etc. Hopefully it'll help.
Anyway, as you can imagine, I was so happy on Friday to have the long weekend ahead of us. It's like I treasure each moment with Lily a 1000 times more now!
We did have lots of fun. A couple of Memorial Day BBQ's and an excursion to our neighborhood park where Lily showed off her skills on the swing.
We found out monkey moves and sounds make her giggle... (it's amazing what you'll do to get a smile!)
Swinging Lily
And to top it off, here's another movie (filmed last weekend - before the teething troubles began).
Cowgirl Lily
Have a good week everyone!

But it will be over in a few weeks, hopefully :-)
And nothing beats the goofy little, new teeth grins they give you!
